How to Capture Pet Prints

We may also be able to work from an existing paw or nose print, veterinary keepsake, or photograph.

Capturing Paw Prints

  • We recommend shaving the hair around your pet's paw pad.

  • Use a non-toxic print kit specifically designed for pets. (linked below).

  • Make sure the paw is clean and dry.

  • Follow the instructions provided with the kit.

  • Press the paw onto a clean sheet of paper,

  • Lift it straight upwards to avoid smudging.

  • You can also try allowing your pet to walk on the paper.

  • Capture several prints if your pet remains comfortable.

  • Stop if your pet becomes restless or distressed.

Capturing Nose Prints

  • Use only a non toxic kit specifically designed for pet nose prints. (linked below).

  • Follow the instructions provided with the kit.

  • Never press aggressively or force your pet to participate.

  • Capture several prints if your pet remains comfortable.

  • Stop immediately if your pet becomes distressed.

  • Do not apply graphite, ordinary fingerprint ink or untested materials to your pet’s nose.

Scan or photograph you pet's prints

WHEN PHOTOGRAPHING 

  • Place the paper on a flat surface.

  • Use soft, even lighting.

  • Hold the camera directly above it.

  • Make sure the image is sharp and in focus.

  • Avoid flash, glare and heavy shadows.

  • Photograph the entire sheet.

  • Send a second, closer image of the print you would like used.
