frequently asked questions about bespoke & custom jewelry
Commissioning a bespoke piece begins with a conversation. These answers explain what to expect when designing a piece with Josanne Mark.
Getting started
What is the difference between bespoke and custom jewelry?
Bespoke jewelry is developed from the ground up with you. Our custom service personalizes a design from our own collection. You don’t need a finished design to begin a bespoke commission; a story, occasion, or a few preferences are enough.
How do I begin?
Book a Consultation here, by completing our enquiry form.
Conversation is welcomed and is always complimentary. It’s a chance to discuss your idea in depth, with no commitment. You can ask questions, explore possibilities, and decide whether our design service is the right fit for your commission.
Materials
Can I use gold I already own?
We understand wanting to give meaningful gold a new life. We don’t use client-provided gold. We work with proprietary, recycled precious-metal alloys, refined to consistent standards, so we can control the metal’s purity and quality throughout the process.
Can I use my own diamonds or gemstones?
Yes. We can assess whether your stone is suitable and design the piece around it. We document its condition before setting and discuss any handling considerations with you.
What metals do you work with?
We work with fine metal alloys, including gold, platinum, palladium, and tarnish-resistant silver. Gold ranges from 10K to 22K in yellow, white, and rose, as well as less available colors such as brown and green gold. We can help you choose a metal and karat suited to the design, your budget, and how you plan to wear it.
Design approach
I co-created a design with AI. Can you make it?
We understand how exciting it can be to see an idea take shape. AI can help you explore possibilities, but it isn’t a jewelry designer. We won’t manufacture or refine an AI-generated design. Our strength is turning the story and preferences behind your idea into an original piece through our own design process.
Can you make a piece like a design I found online?
We know how it feels to find a design that speaks to you. We won’t copy or adapt another designer’s finished work. Show us your design-inspirations; tell us what you love about it, we can carry those qualities into a new, original design that feels unmistakably yours.
Cost and timing
What is the cost of initiating a bespoke design?
A design development deposit of TT$1,200 per design, or US$190 for overseas clients is required to begin a bespoke design. It is paid before design work begins and credited toward your final purchase if you proceed with that design. Complex or sculptural designs may incur an additional fee.
How does the process work, and when will I receive a quote?
After our initial conversation, we develop sketches, select or assess gemstones, and create a 3D model. Once the design is settled and the gemstones are selected, we prepare a formal quote. Production begins after you approve the quote and pay the 50% deposit.
How long does a bespoke commission take?
A bespoke design typically takes about 8–10 weeks. A more involved design, extended design discussions, or sourcing a specific gemstone may extend the timeline. We’ll confirm the expected timing for your piece.
Overseas commissions
Can I commission a piece from overseas, and how is it delivered?
Yes. Our design service can be handled entirely online, including design discussions and approvals. We ship finished pieces insured via FedEx with tracking. Import duties and taxes are payable by you and are not included in the price.
